Shrinky Dinks As a Threat To National Security

Shrinky dinks? Paper clips? Gimme a break. I can duplicate a Medecokey blank with a piece of brass stock and a dremel tool, then cut aperfect key from a photocopy using my
HPC Blitz
[hpcworld.com]. There's nothing amazing about what this guy'sdone. Given the appropriate information (cut depths and angles)
any
medeco key can be duplicated without serious difficulty. Heck, that's the case with
all
mechanical key locks. I once showed the Medeco rep who came to mylock shop how I could duplicate a standard G3 Biaxial key using aslightly modified commonly available Rolls Royce key blank. He wasunderstandably dismayed, but not surprised. There are two kinds oflocksmiths in this world: 1) the kind like the guy quoted in thearticle who said "Your locksmith will tell you this is impossible",and 2) guys like me who will tell you "yeah, someone could make akey to that--- I've done it myself". Point is, you want to use alocksmith more like 2) than 1). The first guy will feed you thestandard Medeco marketing bullshit about how "only we can make yourkeys" and convince you that equals security. The second guy willtell you key control is useful, but it's not relevant beyond itsobvious purpose. There are really only two kinds of commonbreak-ins: inside jobs and random burglaries. In the case of insidejobs, all the key control in the world won't matter because theperp has a key already. This key could have been given to them, taken out of a desk drawer, or otherwise acquired via lax internalkey management. This makes up 99% of all break ins. The other 1% isburglaries by random opportunist perps taking advantage of aweakness, usually on the spur of the moment. Back doors proppedopen by people out for a smoke, simply walking in during businesshours wearing a suit, etc. All this spy crap people have in theirheads about about burglars picking locks and James Bonding intotheir houses is fantasy bullshit. Real burglars wait till you'renot home and throw a brick through the window, or let themselves inwith the key you gave the cleaning service. All this hoo-hah overmaking a medeco key with a credit card is total yawnsville, and ifanyone thinks they can get into the white house with a shrinky dinkkey, they're totally on crack. The whit House has things likeSECRET SERVICE AGENTS, and ALARM SYSTEMS because they know keysalone are not enough.

Why teens thrive on sleep

Teenagers who get less than eight hours' sleep do not perform aswell at memory tasks such as dictation and multistep maths, a newstudy has found.
A student who got eight to nine hours of sleep could carry outnearly 80 per cent of tasks, compared to less than two-thirds oftasks managed by a student who slept for less than eight hours, thestudy by Flinders University in South Australia found.
"It is almost as if kids without enough sleep don't have enoughmemory capacity to store that much information," Flinders' Childand Adolescent Sleep Clinic director Michael Gradisar said.
Sleep experts say many students are not getting enough sleep, whichhas serious implications for learning. Psychologists MichaelCarr-Gregg and Andrew Fuller argue school start times are at oddswith teenagers' body clocks and school should start later.
Clinical psychologist David Morawetz said many teenagers' sleepproblems stem from changes to their circadian rhythms, or bodyclock, in their late teens when the sleep hormone melatonin kicksin much later, affecting their ability to fall asleep and also towake again.
Katie Wood, who is studying for the International Baccalaureate, used to lie awake at night trying to will herself to sleep. She was"getting by" on about four hours a night. As well as worrying abouther lack of sleep, she was anxious about her self-imposed 40 hoursof study a week, her school musical and her singing exams. "I losta lot of weight and I got sick with a cold and my eye started totwitch," she said.
Since attending a sleep program by Dr Morawetz she has cut 10 hoursof study from her schedule and stopped doing yoga and studyingbefore bed. She now regularly gets seven hours of solid sleep anight and her grades have not suffered. "It is almost like the moreI studied, the less I could take in because my brain was angry withme."
