The turmoil that has plagued the Sir JJ School of Art overthe past few months came to a head on Tuesday after dean RavindraBalapure skirted a promised meeting with the faculty and students.
He suddenly proceeded on leave after handing charge of his office,prompting the students to launch an indefinite protest.
Even as the drama unfolded, Azad Maidan police visited theinstitute to investigate the ongoing theft of artefacts and projectwork. Chandeliers, lamp posts and installations have gone missingfrom the institute over a period of five months.
On Tuesday evening, members of the students" council wore blackarmbands to protest the Sapathetic attitude of the administrationtowards their long-standing grievances
SWe are demanding a probe into the increasing incidence of thefton the premises. However, our main concern is that the institutedoes not have a full-time dean to assume responsibility forgovernance, they said.
SWe have submitted a charter of demands to the faculty, which hassought a weeks time to respond, the students said.
